Le Fer is a hand-crafted wine produced from a small plot of the Cheval Noir vineyard (two hectares of old vines). This Saint-Emilion, made from 100% Merlot, was first produced in the 1998 vintage. Hand-picking with very rigorous sorting in the vineyards accounts for very low yields (22.5 hectolitres/hectare). Only perfectly ripe grapes are used.
