Winemaker's notes: Our 2005 Marin County Merlot Merlot (300 cases) shows the deep berry fruit intensity and depth that we’ve come to expect from Marin County wines, but none of the heaviness that is often associated with big Merlots from hotter climates. The nose shows a complex melange of blackberry, raspberry and red plum fruits, along with a touch toast and leather in the overtones. It's brightness and fruit forward nature show it's Marin County roots. In the mouth, fresh cherry fruit shines through, carried by supple tannins and clean acidity. It's forward fruit, balanced acidity and moderate alcohol work together to make the 2005 Merlot a great match for light meat game bird dishes like game hen or veal.
