"This red varietal is the king of Burgundy in addition to being the lover of many a winemaker. This grape needs almost perfect conditions to grow and the tender care of its vinifier in order to coerce it into the masterful wine that it can be when it reaches its potential. Arguably the best wines on the planet come from Pinot Noir and for good reason; these wines don't just give pleasure to your tongue, they dance. Besides giving incredible pleasure as it parades its fruit and complexity on your tongue, the complexity by nature springs forth in your mind prior memories of other wines, foods, smells, times and places. An elixir of youth if you will as it can bring you back 30 years to when you smelled that cherry pie in your Grandma's kitchen or 10 years back to when you first had that great kiss and ate chocolate together. If you're looking for a medium bodied red that goes great by itself, with lamb, with beef, with chicken, with seafood, and even with noodles, a fine Pinot Noir will take you back. Now if only it were this easy to describe the bouquet and flavors of such a complex wine". |
