"Known as Grenache throughout much of the world, especially France, this grape varietal is most likely of Spanish origin and known there as Granacha. It is a huge hit in Spanish wines as the foundation as well as in those of the Southern Rhone where it serves as a permanent mix with Syrah and Mouvedre. With hints of black currant, blackberries, vanilla, dust, vanilla, and at times piled on smoke, toast, and tar, Grenache is an easily recognizable varietal that can be fruity and medium bodied to complex and heavy. Tempranillo The leading grape of Spain, the Tempranillo grape is a red varietal that is huge in Riojas as well as in Ribera del Dueros. Many remind us of fruit gushing forth followed by herbs as the finish. It is commonly mixed with other grapes as a blending grape and is used extensively in port creation. " |
